Bean Growing Experiment

This term the students in Grade 1/2 have been studying a new Inquiry Learning topic In My Backyard.

Through exploring their backyard and school ground habitats they will understand that living things live in different places where their needs are met. They will also explore what happens when habitats change and some living things can no longer have their needs met.

Observing life cycles of minibeasts and plants students will help them understand that living things grow and change.

Students will learn that living things have a variety of external features. They will recognise common features of animals such as head, legs and wings and will describe the use of animal body parts for particular purposes such as moving and feeding. They will identify common features of plants such as leaves and roots and describe the use of plant parts for particular purposes such as making food and obtaining water.

Two weeks ago the children conducted a bean experiment where they were giving seeds for butter beans and put them in a plastic container and some paper towel and sat them on our window ledge, watering them everyday.  The children have been monitoring the progress of their beans growth everyday and have been excited to see some changes in their beans.

Keep checking on our blog to see how much our beans have grown over the coming weeks.  If were lucky we may see Jack climb down the beanstalk once he has collected all the items from the giant.

Fantastic Gymnastics

For the past two weeks the children have been participating in a gymnastics program with their classroom and Physical Education teacher, Miss Craig. The children participate in Physical Education once a week where they develop their fundamental motor skills and learn strategies and rules to various games and sports.  The children have also been participating in Football Clinics run by SEDA over four weeks where they have be fine tuning their kicking, handpassing and team working skills.

Buddy Bear’s Big Adventure by Jasper

th8LB495GYOne sunny morning there was a big purple house and a big furry, cuddly and purple friend. His name was Buddy Bear. After he ate his yummy eggs, bacon and bread Buddy went for a walk to the woods.

Half way into the woods he saw a poor man hungry and sad living under a tree.  Buddy Bear said ‘What’s wrong?’ ‘I am lonely, hungry, tired, thirsty and sad.  The man living under the tree was waiting for someone to take care of him.  “I am 150 years old” said the old man. “Well I could take care of you” said Buddy Bear. “Well that’s very nice young man, by the way what’s your name?” “It’s Buddy Bear.  So do you want to come and live with me in my warm house?” “Yes I’d love to come and live with you.” So Buddy Bear took the old man to his house and took care of him.

Lego Education Centre by Taran

On Wednesday the 13th May 2CR, 2C and 2S went on the bus to the Lego Education Centre.  When we got there, there were lots of puddles we had to walk through to get to the Lego Centre. When we got inside I said “This is awesome!” Just then two ladies came in.  The two ladies names were Mel and Nerida.  We made a roller coaster, a tea cup and a pulley ride and then we went outside and had some snack.  The we made a comfy chair and then we had some lunch and went on the bus to go back to school.

The Lego Education Centre by Malaika

On Wednesday the 13th of May 2CR, 2S and 2C were very excited because they were going to the Lego Education Centre in the city near the Melbourne Star.  We got there by two Simcock’s buses. I went on bus one it was big and had a lot of seats.  The weather was bad because it was raining and it was cold.  When we all drove there the Lego Education Centre on the outside was not what I expected because it was smaller than I thought.

Meanwhile, Miss Rapinett, Miss Reed, Mrs Chandler and Ashley all were deciding whose grade would go first but during the talk all the grade 2 children could see inside of the Lego Education Centre, it was bigger than I expected.  Although, when the teachers were talking 2 unsuspected ladies came out, they explained who they were, they told us their names were Mel and Nerida.  Then 2S and 2C went inside meaning that 2CR got to eat their snack and got to go to the toilet……..

Harmony Day By Sithuka

On Friday 20th of March, it was Harmony Day. We were allowed to wear orange and purple. It was a very cold day when we had the parade. Malaika and Ayak told the speech and showed the class canvas. 4WP was our buddy grade and my buddy is Elia. It took about 10 minutes showing the canvas from preps to grade 6. The last thing we did was listen to a song which took about 5 minutes.

Harmony Day by Ayak

On the 20th of March we celebrated Harmony Day at assembly. Malaika and I did a speech, so did our buddies. Our buddies names are Chloe and Leah. The assembly started at 9:15am. We also showed our canvas to the whole school. We were allowed to wear orange and purple. When we went up on stage it was quite scary to speak in front of 500 people at assembly. After we had our parade the people who were at the front got to stand up. After that it was lunch time and we got to eat our lunch with our buddies.

Dino Stars

On a sunny evening Dr Arshall created a robot to go back in time to collect a dinosaur egg. Josh was snooping around when the robot had arrived. Dr Arshall did some testing and said “It was a Tyrannosaurus Rex egg.” That night Josh Arshall went to the Grand Hyatt to sleep.

The next morning Josh went through the ventilation system. Josh took the egg  and went to his room. Suddenly…… the egg hatched. The T-rex made heaps of piercing noises. Josh named him Tyrno. Tyrno and Josh became awesome friends. During their life they had awesome adventures but I will tell you their first one.

One morning Josh went to Federation Square. Tyrno and Josh were lost so Josh went to the hotel and asked to see where his parents were in the hotel. The manager said ” They are dead.” Josh asked ” Can I get my guitars.” so he went and got the guitars. Josh played ” I miss my parents.” He got $35.00.

After 7 years Josh taught Tyrno and he was able to play properly. Josh entered Best Band Battles. Tyrno and Josh were DINO STARS

The Bands are Traspors, Dastematorors, Telvasaurs and DINO STARS!

The next morning a news reporter said ” Breaking News on the Best Band Battles, The Telvasaurs were cheating because the microphone made people show good scores. The Dino Stars win.
